Traveling to Mexico City on a budget? Set your worries aside, we’ve gathered some of the best things in Mexico City which you can do for free. Below, we arranged the activities on a daily basis. Enjoy!

MONDAY

Most museums are closed on Monday, unlike the markets. It’s best to go to Mercado Medellin or Mercado Merced and browse through fresh produces like fruits and vegetables and the many piñata on display.  Also, you can rent a bike for free for three awesome hours at the gratisbici stand in front of the Anthropology Museum in Bosque Chapultapec.

TUESDAY

On Tuesdays, check out the murals of Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros and Jose Clemente Orozco for free in Antiguo Colegio San Ildefonso. Other great destinations of Rivera’s works are Palacio Nacional that is always free, just don’t forget to bring and ID or your passport and catch the changing of the guards ceremony at 4pm, and the courtyards of the Secretaria de Educación Publico, always free also.

WEDNESDAY

Learn about Mexico City’s culture and history at Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico. Hit the Monumento a la Revolucion’s observation deck that is always free on Wednesday and soak up the beautiful panoramic view of the city.

THURSDAY

The best time to go to Zocalo is on Thursdays when both locals and some tourists hang around the plaza and fly kites with the kids. Some fairs are also held there. You can also head to the Metropolitano Cathedral located on the one side of the square or the Centro Cultural de Espana that is always free to the public and has amazing art exhibitions. Or you can check out the Museo Archivo de la Fotografia, which is also free, or the nearby Museo Archivo de la Fotografia and enjoy the amazing atmosphere.

FRIDAY

Check out the Museo Jumex that is free on Fridays and drop by the nearby Soumaya Museum after, which is always free.

SATURDAY

Visit the neighbourhood and house of the famed Frida Kahlo, the Casa Azul – but only from the outside though. Stroll through the Viveos nursery after and see or join the Mexicans getting sweaty by doing yoga, martial arts or jogging around. You can also check out Jardin Plaza Hidalgo and Jardin Centenario or explore the fun Bazar Sabado in San Angel and browse through Mexico’s best handcrafted ceramics, textiles, jewelry and woodwork.

SUNDAY

Sunday is museum day in Mexico City! A lot of them waive admission fees like the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum) and Architectural Museum then walk to the Almeda Central Park after, the Diego Riviera Museum, and the Palacio Postal and postal museum. After the museum hopping, go to Bosque Chapultapec and see live pandas!
