1. Head to the Art Gallery of Ontario on a Wednesday night

The AGO is totally free on Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30pm.

2. Take a free walking tour around the city

There’s free 90-minute downtown walking tours from Union Station through the Financial District to City Hall on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June to October.

3. Watch a movie in the park for free

You actually have several options during the summer including Free Flicks at Harbourfront, TIFF in Your Park,Christie Pits Film Festival, and Sail-In Cinema.

4. Catch events at Harbourfront Centre

There’s always something free going on at Harbourfront Centre especially in the summer, from food and cultural fests to DJs, live music, and dancing.

5. Tour a brewery and have free beer

Amsterdam BrewHouse offers free brewery tours Monday to Thursday at 5pm and Fridays at 11am.

6. Experience Thursdays at the Gladstone

Listen to live music for free.

7. Explore Kensington Market

This extensive mash-up of cafes, bars, vintage stores, produce stands, and specialty food stores is always worthy of a walk through. Also, go to Global Cheese and then let them feed you all the free samples.

8. Listen to the Music Garden’s Free Music

Go to the Music Garden on Thursdays at 7pm, and Sundays at 4pm for free concerts throughout the summer.

9. Explore Yonge-Dundas Square

Yonge-Dundas Square always hosts free events throughout the summer including concerts (Fridays at 8pm) and films (Thursdays at dusk).

10. Enjoy a free concert thanks to the Pan Am Games

PANAMANIA, a 35-day arts and culture festival, will be going on in conjunction with the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games happening in Toronto this summer. This means there are free concerts at Nathan Phillips Square, the Distillery District, and CIBC Pan Am Park. Catch The Flaming Lips, The Roots, Stars, A Tribe Called Quest, and many more.

11. Plunge into an outdoor pool

Toronto boasts 57 outdoor pools all across the city so choose one and jump in — for free.

12. Sunbathe at the beach

In case you didn’t know, Toronto is blessed with an array of beaches that cost nothing. Some of the best are Cherry Beach, Bluffer’s Park Beach, and Hanlan’s Point Beach, which is clothing optional.

13. Visit Toronto Botanical Garden

At the Toronto Botanical Garden 17 themed gardens cover four acres and admission is free.

14. Go to Allen Gardens Conservatory

Explore Allen Gardens Conservatory’s 16,000sqft of plant-packed greenhouses.

15. Stroll at St. Lawrence Market

Explore 120 merchants hawking delicious things, but if you really need to keep your wallet shut, just try the samples.

16. Visit the almost 400 acres of High Park

Hiking trails, Grenadier Pond, an outdoor pool, a zoo, gardens — Toronto’s favorite plot of green space has enough to keep you entertained for days without worrying about spending a dollar.

17. Admire Art at Graffiti Alley

Not all art needs to be viewed in a museum or gallery. There’s a kilometer of amazing street art here in an alley that runs West from Spadina Ave to Portland St off of Queen West.

18. Visit the Bata Shoe Museum on a Thursday

If I were on your shoes, I’m going to visit the museum dedicated to all things footwear-related which is PWYC on Thursdays between 5 and 8pm.

19. Trek to the new Aga Khan Museum on a Wednesday

This stunning space showcasing Islamic art, history, and culture is free on Wednesdays from 4 to 8pm.

20. Explore the Power Plant Gallery

Admission to this contemporary visual art haven is always free and there’s always something interesting going on.

21. Go down memory lane in the Distillery District

Cobblestone streets, no cars, and Victorian-era buildings combined with galleries, shops, and restaurants with expansive patios for free.

22. Have free yoga in the park

Do a class for free in High Park Sunday mornings at 10am.

23. Catch free wine tastings at Wine Rack
