1. Visit Viennese Museums

Though the cultural scene in Vienna might leave a hole in your pocket, most museums are actually always free or on some particular days. The Geldmuseum, Kunsthalle am Karlsplatz, Bezirksmuseen and MUSA are always free.

Kids and teenagers up to the age of 19 have free entry to the Albertina, MAK, mumok, Belvedere, Technisches Museum, Naturhistorisches Museum, Kunsthistorisches Museum and Lichtensteinmuseum.

On the first Sunday of each month, free entry for every person on all ages is offered by Uhrenmuseum, Wienmuseum Hermesvilla, Haydnhaus, Wien Museum am Karlsplatz, Heeresgeschichtliches Museum, Römermuseum and Otto Wagner Pavillion.

2. Take a Hike to the Kahlenberg

Get a breathtaking view of Vienna from up above by hiking to the Kahlenberg, a 480m local mountain or „Hausberg.“ You won’t only see Austria’s capital from above, but also the Scheeneberg-region and the small Karpaten. Don’t forget to pack a picnic and enjoy one within the vineyards.

3. Experience the Summer Cinema at the Rathausplatz

Viennese Civil Hall is packed with different events all year long and most of them have no admission fees. One of the main events is the Summe Cinema at the Rathausplatz which occurs from the end of June up to the start of September. Enjoy movies from the world of jazz, ballet, opera and music from all over the world displayed on a 300-square-meter screen. First come, first served so arrive early for seats reservations are not allowed.

4. Explore the Gardens of Schönbrunn

Relax at the at the gardens of the baroque castle Schönbrunn, a world heritage site and the most visited wonder of Vienna. A lot of runners frequent the gardens for morning workouts. Don’t forget to go to the Gloriette after to have a glimpse of Vienna’s special view.

5. Use the Free Public WIFI

6. Experience the Largest open Air Festival in Europe

Join the „Donauinselfest,“ a free open air festival in Vienna which happens to be the largest one in the entire Europe with 11 stages and ove 600 hours of program. Since 1894, this has become a tradition of the Viennese which lasts for three days and is visited by around 3 million people.
