Join the free book launch of “The Natives are Restless” by Constance Hale on Monday, November 14th from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm at The Booksmith, 1644 Haight Street, San Francisco, California.

The Natives are Restless explores the untold story of Hawaiian hula – how it has made its way back as a legit art form after two centuries of overt suppression, benign neglect and tourist cliché – utilizing the teachings and choreography of Patrick Makuakāne, San Francisco dance master.

Also included in the book is the story of an indigenous people and the threats they are facing. This captivating narrative comes with stunning photographs and stunning page design.

Constance Hale is born in Hawaii, moved to San Francisco and became a journalist. She writes about Hawaiian culture for over 25 years. Some of her award-winning pieces appeared in The Atlantic, National Geographic Adventure, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Honolulu, Smithsonian, and more.
