They say free is always the right price. Agree, yes? We totally do! That’s why we’ve collated some of the fun and best free things to do in Wroclaw, Poland, also known as Breslau in German.

1. Explore the Main Market Square or Rynek

Built after the WWII, Wroclaw’s Old Town has magnificent architecture in cotton candy colors. This serves as the hub of the city so enjoy browsing through tons of shops, cafes and restaurants or just get entertained by the buskers for free!

2. Visit the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist

Built in the mid 10th century, it’s amazing to think how this church has survived after being attacked several times like the bombing by the Red Army, the Mongol invasions and even set to huge fires. Entrance to the cathedral is free except the top area where you can get a great panorama view of Wroclaw.

3. Experience the “Drinking Island”

Many didn’t know but Wroclaw has a lot of islets. Enjoy a sunny afternoon on the banks of Odra River or join the locals gather on Wyspa Slodowa sipping on some beers and having a chat. Careful though, it is illegal in Poland although a lot of people do this. Just don’t make any loud noise to avoid getting attention from the police.

4. Drop by the Centennial Hall

One of Poland’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wandering on the grounds of the Centennial Hall is free. This is the favorite gathering spot for locals and concerts and other events are often held here.

5. Hunting of the Gnomes

Find gnomes all over the city like some of them hanging out on the bench near Market Square, the other one stuck behind bars and begging for alms. It’s fun to hunt them!
