Necessary Trouble is the final book on the movements that are meant to permanently remake American politics, witnessing a moment of unprecedented political chaos and social activism.
In the book, journalist Sara Jaffe takes the readers into the center of all these movement, describing what made ordinary Americans become activists. Jaffe traversed the country for years, asking people what they were angry about, and what they would do to take power back.
Jaffe rode a bus from New York to Ohio with student organizers, walked a picket line at Burger King branch in Atlanta, attended a people’s assembly in a church gymnasium in Ferguson, Missouri, and went door-to-door in Queens after Hurricane Sandy.
