National Park Week kicks off on April 21 and The National Park Service (NPS) National Parks all across the United States free for everyone.

There are just four mere days in 2018 when some of the national parks across the country will open their doors for free. Many parks are free year-round, but those that usually charge will give you the chance to explore their beauty gratis. However, only entrance fees are waived. Applicable fees for camping or transportation inside the park are still in effect.

Everyone should get out there and take advantage of the freebie because there’s a Trump Administration proposal from late 2017 that will undergo a significant fee increase on admissions.

According to it, the new prices will be more than double the old prices, but those fee hikes are being reconsidered at the last minute due to backlash. Among the reasons from park-goers is that the increased fees could make US National Parks inaccessible to low-income families.

After the freebie on April 21, many parks will commemorate Earth Day on April 22. The second day of National Park Week will include a celebration of the National Trails System and the Wild & Scenic Rivers System’s 50th anniversary.

After that, it’s followed by veteran and military appreciation day on April 28 and National Park Rx Day on April 29. The latter features programs designed by the NPS with healthcare and community partners to promote the use of parks and trails as part of individual and community health initiatives.
