Attend the book launch and discussion of Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in School by Monique W. Morris, a powerful advocate on the rights of African American girl.

Joining the talk will be Nzingha Dugas, the recently appointed leader of the Oakland Unified School District’s new initiative, the African American Girls and Young Women Achievement Program.

This groundbreaking event regarding the lives of African American girls will be on Thursday, November 17th at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco, California. The event will start at 6:30 pm and ends until 8:00 pm.

Ms. Morris has been working in the areas of education, social justice, and civil rights for over 20 years. She co-founded the National Black Women’s Justice Institute and the 2012 Soros Justice Fellow. Aside from that, she was also the Vice President for the Economics Programs, Advocacy and Research at the NAACP.

She also wrote Black Stats: African Americans by the Numbers in the Twehty-First Century (The New Press).  Her debut novel Too Beautiful for Words is a favorite among girls in detention facilities and marginalized youth across the country.w
